Doo-Wops & Hooligans is the debut album by 25-year-old Hawaiian-born American singer Bruno Mars. The album was released on October 4, 2010 and charted at number three on the Billboard 200. Mars’ writing and production team The Smeezingtons were credited with writing all songs and serve as the album’s executive producers.
Bruno shows the world not only his incredible vocal range but the strength of his song-writting and versatility as a muscian. He plays most of the instruments himself.
This is a truly amazing debut album by hitmaker Bruno Mars which truly showcases what a brilliant singer and a gifted song writer he is. The album takes you on a real emotional journey with each song telling a different story. All the tracks are strong and are marked with a subtle reggae hook that takes you to a place under a palm tree on the beach, and keeps you there.
“Just the Way You Are” was released as the album’s lead single on July 19, 2010. It has since topped the Billboard Hot 100 for four consecutive weeks, having sold over 2 million copies. The music video was directed by Ethan Lader and was released on September 8, 2010.
As promotional singles, “Liquor Store Blues” featuring Damian Marley and “Grenade” were released to the iTunes Store on September 21 and September 28, 2010, respectively.
“Grenade” was later decided as the album’s second single and has so far topped the charts in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the UK, and the US. The music video, directed by Nabil, was released November 19, 2010.
“The Lazy Song” was released as the album’s third single, and was sent to U.S. mainstream radio on February 15, 2011.
Doo Wops & Hooligans is easily one of the best albums of 2010. Lyrics are great, beats are great, album will have you pressing repeat over and over! Only complaint is that there are only 10 tracks on the album at 35 minutes, the album is far too short.
Peter Hernandez (born October 8, 1985 in Waikiki, Hawaii), better known by his stage name Bruno Mars, is best known for singing and co-writing the hooks for the #1 hit ‘Nothin’ On You’ by B.o.B, and ‘Billionaire’ by Travie McCoy; he also co-wrote the international hits ‘Right Round‘ by Flo Rida and ‘Wavin’ Flag‘ by K’naan.
