About this Album:

BLACKsummers’night is the fourth studio album by modern soul artist Maxwell. The album is the first full-length Maxwell release since “Now”, his critically-acclaimed third studio album, which debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 in August 2001.
This 2009 album reunites Maxwell with long-time collaborator Hod David, who serves as co-producer and co-writer of the album. Maxwell and Hod recorded the entire album live in the studio with an A-list ensemble of elegantly sympathetic musicians.

“Pretty Wings“, the first single from the album, peaked at number 52 on the Billboard Hot 100. Maxwell described the song to MTV as being “a bittersweet love song about meeting the right girl at the wrong time.”

“Bad Habits,” the second single from the album, peaked at #32 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts.
“Cold,” which is not a single, also made the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs at #62.
This album is the sensuous opening installment of the artist’s monumental BLACKSUMMERS’NIGHT trilogy. The trilogy’s subsequent chapters, blackSUMMERS’ night and blacksummers’ NIGHT, are slated for release in 2010 and 2011 respectively.

Striving for an emotional authenticity and real world sound for the album, the entire album was recorded live in the studio with an a-list ensemble of elegantly sympathetic musicians.
BLACKsummers’night debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 albums chart with first week sales of 316,000 units. The singer’s last set, 2001’s Now, also opened at number one with an opening week of 296,000 copies sold.
