Please consider my translation preserving rhyme and metre (posted at
http://www.allthelyrics.com/forum/showt ... ?t=40102#4 ) :
I made a translation which adheres to/preserves the song's metre (and original syllable count) & rhyme and also whenever possible I tried to refrain from my own interpretation/uphold any ambiguity whenever I believed it was (intentionally) in there. Of course, that is an interpretation by default.

Abel – In transit
I’m closing my front door
Streets appear to be crying
Clouds appear to be fleeing
I walk through the bus door
People appear to be peering,
It’s their looks I keep avoiding
Before they see me.
It’s all been a long time ago
When you recalled when I was born,
And unconditionally chose me.
I see the meadows
A grid of houses follows
No sound behind the windows
Who can see me
In trains sparsely light by blue glows?
Your heart seem to be close
Yet it’s not beating.
It’s all a long time ago
When it was your smile I’d longue to see
And you meant everything to me
It’s still far too deep in me
That I could share in what you had
You flicked my hair and then said,
“You don’t know how my voice sounds
What I am is what you see now
Would you dance with illusions?
Deep in your mind
You are further than the present
Back in the past is where your mind went
Does it sound familiar?”
It’s all been a long time ago
Drinking red wine both you and me
And you meant everything to me
It’s still far too deep in me
You didn’t see me as I do
I’m so much different than you
I cross the alley
But it will never make me feel warm
Because it can’t hold me in its arms
Who would see me?
I would like just to holler
Utter and endless lasting holler
Instead I falter
You’re not exclusive to me, oh no!
It’s to the world I could attest
That this is probably for the best.
It’s all been a long time ago
You didn’t see me as I do
I’m so much different than you
